Portfolio Review
Here you can find out more about our written portfolio reviews, and see all the details of how to book and what you will need to submit.
Our portfolio reviews are aimed at anyone who is creating work for the children’s book market. This could include work from board books, picture books, fiction, non-fiction, and covers.
You will receive constructive and clear written feedback, via email, as a pdf document. The notes will always be tailored to you and your work, and specifically about the portfolio you submit.

How it works
Have you submitted your portfolio and had either no response or rejections? Do you want to know how to make your portfolio stand out in a competitive market? What else does your portfolio need? Do you question whether your visual voice is consistent?
If so, this is the perfect opportunity for you.
Your written feedback on your submitted portfolio will include:
What is currently working well
What aspects of your work to develop further
Any key edits
Thinking about your audience
We will focus on areas including portfolio design, sequence, ability to create characters, worlds and having a consistent visual voice.
This opportunity is open to illustrators at any level, you might be a student, just starting out, a recent graduate or a professional illustrator - we welcome submissions from all.
Submission Guidelines
Portfolio Reviews cost £60 each.
To book a review email us at info@orangebeakstudio.com with your pdf portfolio attached to request a written review.
We will then send you the payment details (BACS transfer) We require all payments before your review.
Once we have received your payment we will assign a tutor to review your work and you will receive written feedback 6 weeks from your payment being received.
Your portfolio should be a 12 page PDF and your name and contact details need to be on the first page. Save your PDF as yourname_OB_portfolioreview
Your portfolio should be aimed at the children’s book market, as this is Orange Beak’s focus. We’re not accepting dummy books at this review.
Our feedback will be solely based on your portfolio you submit, we will not be looking at your website or any other platforms you share your work - Instagram etc.
We accept International submissions.
Your feedback will be sent back via email, please do keep a check on your junk and spam boxes too. We will not be able to provide further notes following your feedback.
